The Goal
Produce a poster on the topic of outer space, digestible in two forms: static and interactive.
The Result
I made my poster about Felicette, the first and only cat to make the journey to space and back, alive to tell the tale.
The Process
I did some research on Felicette's story and grouped my notes chronologically. After sketching out some outlines on paper, I entered Figma to begin laying out how I wanted the static poster to look. I eventually decided to keep the title simple, featuring her name as the most visible use of type in the beginning of the user's experience. To absorb the information in the static poster, the user would move from top to bottom — a natural progression seen in many visual displays of information.
Continuing in Figma, I soon learned that a physically mapped environment (an imagined space, like the surface of a desk) helps the user to navigate through content more comfortably and automatically. Using various interactable elements, I guided the user through some simple animations, moving down, then right, then down again. Keeping interactions two-dimensional in terms of sequential freedom allowed for more simple prototyping on my end. I also played with pagination, arrow-shaped buttons, and more unorthodox methods of directing the user (lit-up yellow in an otherwise grayscale composition as a signal to "click here").
