Velocity: RIT's Urban Dance Crew
The Goal
Promote my dance team's annual showcase and competition, RBDC 2025 (RIT's Best Dance Crew).
The Result
I was a secondary photographer at the shoot from which all the photos are sourced, and I was the lead designer for two different style directions. This year's show theme was "Hollywood Red Carpet," so I took inspiration from 1950s movie posters and 2000s magazine covers.
The Process
For the 50s style, I focused on formatting for physical print and large-scale visual display on campus (displayed on a Jumbotron on campus for the 10 days prior to the show). To emulate the precision of hand-painted posters, I used the cutout filter on each image in Photoshop and then smoothed any overly irregular shapes manually with the brush tool.
For the 00s style, I made one template and inputted each individual's photo, adjusting the gradient behind the description text as needed for legibility. This style was ultimately better suited for the Instagram story format, as our team members seemed to prefer posting the original photos rather than the filtered ones.
